Amongst the wildlife of the unspoilt water meadows in this idyllic part of Hampshire, just south of Twyford, the angler will find East Lodge. This is one of the most exacting beats on the River Itchen - a river which is one of the historic homes of flyfishing.
Since the 17th Century this stretch of chalk stream has indulged the passion of anglers. Nowadays it is protected, both as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and also as a Special Area of Conservation. Today we combine the traditional approach to flyfishing with the modern facilities that corporate entertainment demands.
We have approximately 2 miles of double bank fishing and can comfortable accommodate 10 anglers at a time. Part of the beat is tree lined as the river meanders through ancient woods. Other parts wend through water meadows. The two combine to give varied and interesting settings and offer different challenges to the angler.
Follow novice Freddie Rostand as he meets fly fishing expert John Reeve to show him the basics, on one of the most picturesque beats on the River Itchen.
A short film looking at the unique ecology of the chalk streams and specifically the world famous River Test and River Itchen in Hampshire.
Breakfast on arrival, enjoy lunch by the river served with fine wines and champagne, then finish the day with afternoon tea in the hut.
Experienced Ghillies will assist you in whatever they can,
from advice on fly selection to casting techniques.
I have had many happy days at East Lodge, not only as an individual fisherman
but also as part of a days entertainment. We have always been extremely well looked after.
There is a good variety of fishing and it seems that those involved are constantly
striving to improve things where possible.
